STAY: HOTEL DIVA
By Steve Waters
Sleek and sexy, the
flagship hotel of the
Personality Hotels
group exudes a cutting-
edge style all its
own. Before you enter
the lobby, you pass
over the Diva Sidewalk
of Fame, which has the
signatures of past celebrity guests etched into the pavement.
The unique, ultra-modern rooms are sophisticated but fun, like
the envelope you'll find in your room safe that says "Safe Sex"
and has a condom in it. The centerpiece of the junior suite I
stayed in was the custom-designed sculptured rolled steel
headboard above the bed. Combined with wall to wall vibrant
cobalt blue carpet it gave the room a sense of drama. The location
in the Union Square neighbourhood is perfect: you have
shopping, dining, nightlife, and entertainment right outside
your door. Two blocks down the street is the actual Union
Square – the heartbeart of San Francisco. Amenities include
free wireless Internet throughout the entire hotel, a 24-hour fitness
room, and a 24-hour business centre; iPods are available
for rent from the front desk, complete with Diva music mixes,
and there are iMacs on every second floor. Rooms are
$129–$199, suites start at $299 USD. This is boutique hotels at
their best.
