CELEBRATING SAN FRANCISCO’S FOUR NEW PERSONALITIES
Personality Hotels Adds Two New Hotels and Restores Two More
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – April 22, 2008 – Cutting-edge Personality Hotels is taking “boutique chic” to an entirely new level with the debut of two new personalities, Hotel Frank and Hotel Vertigo, and two newly refreshed personalities, Kensington Park Hotel and Hotel Union Square. A hotel industry pioneer, Personality Hotels made its premier in 1982 with San Francisco’s first boutique property, Hotel Union Square. More than two decades later, Personality Hotels has become The City’s largest privately-owned boutique hotel operator with seven properties, each with their own individual style, passion and dash of whimsical fun.
Introducing San Francisco’s Fresh “New” Personalities:
Grand: Kensington Park Hotel
Housed in a gorgeous 1925 Moorish/Gothic style building, San Francisco’s fashionable grand dame, Kensington Park Hotel, completed a $2 million guestroom restoration in April 2008. Interior designer Lisa Sayed created the perfect blend of classic, turn-of-the-century elegance with modern, here-and-now touches. Guestrooms, many with spectacular city views, are bathed in rich jewel tones and sumptuous fabrics and boast classic dark wood furnishings, white leather tufted headboards with luxurious feather down comforters, rich silk drapery, plush carpeting with a custom-designed cherry blossom pattern, sleek white lacquer desks accented by baroque mirrors and 36” flat screen televisions.
Authentic: Hotel Union Square
San Francisco’s original boutique hotel, Hotel Union Square, underwent an extensive $5 million renovation that was completed in May 2008. Built in 1913 for the 1915 Pan Pacific Exposition, San Francisco-based Interior Designer Riley Johndonnell modernized the guestrooms and public spaces while still preserving the historic architectural elements of the original structure. The result is a visually stimulating fusion of contemporary and classic San Francisco - beautiful brick walls, mosaic murals, signature staircases, and opulent moldings are complemented by a rich color palate, sleek furnishings from San Francisco-based furniture company EQ3, completely remodeled bathrooms, and state-of-the-art technology that caters to both leisure and business travelers.
Whimsical: Hotel Vertigo
Opened in April 2009, Hotel Vertigo is a modern twist on a familiar favorite - a landmark redux. The hotel is the site of the Empire Hotel made famous in Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo. Weaving the inimitable eccentricity, style, and playfulness of San Francisco, renowned interior designer Thomas Schoos is creating a sophisticated, multi-sensory escape that will appeal to many points of view. Its whimsical eclecticism invites guests to renew their sense of wonder and imagination by shifting their perspective slightly askew - to get caught in the whirl of hip and lighthearted style, fun and at-your-whim service. The look is history re-imagined - stylistic elements of the past beautifully play-off modern design. Reminiscent of a fashionable San Francisco pied–à–terre, a mix of vibrant colors and eclectic furnishings infuse this hip, yet elegant space.
Bold: Hotel Frank
Also completed in April 2009, bold and unmistakable Hotel Frank invites guests to dare to be different, relax and feel free to be themselves. This sense of freedom and unabashed “frankness” is expressed throughout the hotel’s fashion-forward design, also created by Thomas Schoos Design. At Hotel Frank, “time-less” is boldly redefined. Here, the changing styles that have influenced San Francisco through the ages are artfully synthesized into a contemporary, eclectic homage to stylistic change. A distinctive, classic and eye-catching houndstooth pattern prevails throughout the hotel, setting the black and white stage for punches of sleek emerald green and stylish furnishings. Iconic nods to the inspiration of artful design through the decades can be seen throughout the hotel - from the sumptuous, turn-of-the-century Beaux Art classicism, to the tailored lines of 40’s Art Deco. From retro mod 60’s chic, to hip, new millennium styling, Hotel Frank comes alive with a harmonious blend of ageless and up-to-the-minute shapes, textures, and colors.
Established in 1982 as San Francisco’s first boutique hotel company, Personality Hotels is the largest privately-owned boutique hotel operator in The City. From a quaint European-style suite to a zenful night's sleep amid sounds of a tropical rain forest, Personality Hotels can oblige. Celebrating the unique personality in all of us, Personality Hotels consists of an eclectic collection of seven San Francisco boutique properties including WHIMSICAL Hotel Vertigo, BOLD Hotel Frank, SEXY Hotel Diva, GRAND Kensington Park Hotel, AUTHENTIC Hotel Union Square, VIVID Hotel Metropolis and TIMELESS Steinhart Hotel.
