History: Honored as a member of Historic Hotels of America, the Steinhart Hotel was originally built in 1910 as an apartment house by Ignati Steinhart, the San Francisco banker who founded the Steinhart Aquarium in Golden Gate Park. The hotel features spacious, beautiful fully-furnished apartments ranging in size from 400 to 1000 square feet. Exquisitely furnished, the Art Deco-inspired apartments boast hardwood floors accented with custom wool area carpeting, sumptuous velvet draperies, modern tapestry couches, mahogany armoires, oak desks with Bauhaus lamps and dark walnut office chairs. Each apartment comes equipped with linens, china, television, a VCR, a stereo and many small appliances. Many apartments have full walk-in closets. The studios feature a convenient and comfortable Murphy bed, and the living room in the one-bedroom apartments can be converted to a second bedroom through the use of the wall bed. All apartments have at-home offices complete with private phone numbers, complimentary local calls, fax machines and printers. Timeless Amenities: A personal concierge is available to assist guests in arranging a variety of services from pet sitting to weekend getaways.
